Romanji is a system of Japanese writing based on the Phoenician alphabet. Romanji uses Western writing, the same as English spelling, to transcribe the Japanese language. Romanji is commonly used to teach Westerners Japanese or to give examples of pronunciation, but it still follows the conventions of Japanese, including rules for when and how it is used.
